Susan Blankenship (1948-2009)

 
 
DENTON - Susan Dianne Blankenship of Denton passed away Dec. 6, 2009 in the Denton Regional Medical Center where she had served as director of pharmacy for many years. She was born Oct. 19, 1948 In Denison and attended school there.
Susan was an honor graduate from Denison High School in 1967. She entered the University of Houston in the fall of that year and graduated five years later as a licensed pharmacist. She worked in the M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston for two years then moved to Chicago where she worked as director of pharmacy for 13 years in the Cook County Hospital. She established a computerized system of dispensing medication to hospital patients while there. Susan moved to the Denton Regional Medical Center in 1986 and served as the director of pharmacy there for 23 years. She set up their pharmacy on the computerized system she had developed.
Susan never married, opting instead to give her life to the service of hospital patients in the area of pharmacy. Her home was in Denton and she also shared a cabin on Moss Lake with several of her friends.
Susan is survived by her parents, William and Virginia Blankenship of Sherman; a sister, Leann Fenley of Center; brothers, William Jr. of Plano, Dan of Charleston, S.C., Joe of Denison, and Charley of Denison. She was brought up in the Waples Memorial Methodist Church of Denison. Memorial services are pending.
Susan was loved and respected by many friends in the Denton area as well as many in the Chicago area, and old friends in Denison. Susan's request to be cremated was honored. She also requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Abused and Neglected Children of Denton County.
