Shirley Ann Roberts (1948-2010)

 

Shirley Ann Roberts passed away on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 after a long and courageous fight with liver cancer.
Family and friends will celebrate Shirley's wonderful life at 2 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Shepard of Life Lutheran Church, 715 E. Lamar, Arlington. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Organ Fund at Shepard of Life Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society, 8900 John W. Carpenter Frwy., Dallas, TX 75247.

Shirley was born on Nov. 17, 1948 to Edgar and Wilma Goff. She was the older of two loving daughters. Carolyn, her younger sister was the joy of her life. She grew up in Denison and was a graduate of Denison High School in 1967. She went on to East Texas State University and received her degree in education. While at East Texas State, she was a member of the Angel Flight Club and the Samothrace Club.
After graduation, Shirley began her career as a teacher. She taught 17 years at Pope Elementary and eight years at Williams Elementary and retired after 33 years of faithful service to the children and community of the Arlington school district. During her years of teaching service, she was a member of TSTA. In 1985, she married the love of her life, Norm Roberts. Norm and Shirley were active members of Shepard of Life Lutheran Church. Shirley lovingly served as a member of the Church Council, Altar Guild and the Building Committee. Shirley was a believer of Christ and had a strong relationship with the Lord.

After retirement, Shirley followed her husband, Norm, into the real estate business working for Ebby Halliday Realtors. Shirley was a gourmet cook and always found a way to create the best meals at every church and family function. She was a member of the Arlington Women's Club and Suburban Women's Club. Shirley also enjoyed traveling with friends, especially to Estes Park, Colo., Taos, N.M., and Europe. Most importantly, Shirley loved her family and friends and took very good care of them.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Goff. Survivors include her loving husband, Norman E. Roberts Jr.; her stepdaughters, Valori Reid and her husband, Peter, Vanessa Lowe and her husband, Richard; her mother, Wilma Goff; her sister, Carolyn Vogel and her husband, Gary; nephews, David Vogel, Brad Vogel and his wife, Jennifer; Niece, Caryn Riley and her husband, Chad; grandchildren, Ethan and Cami Reid and Jordan and Maddie Lowe; and many grand nieces and nephews.
She will be missed greatly by all those who loved and knew her.
