Obituary

SPOKANE, Wash. - Richard Taylor Young, 61, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Spokane, Wash.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church, 300 W. Acheson, Denison, with his nephew Dr. Richard F. Young and Rev. Danny Broughton officiating. Private family interment will be held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.


Richard was born on Nov. 12, 1948 in Denison, the son of Sam and Rachel Young. He married Colletta Hogue in September 1971. Richard was a graduate of Denison High School in 1967 and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. He served his country with two tours of duty in Vietnam as an Army medic. Richard was a music and youth director in several churches in Texas and worked as a music evangelist before becoming a music director at Driscoll Avenue Baptist Church in Spokane, Wash., where he served until his early retirement because of health.


Richard is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Colletta of Spokane, Wash.; daughters, Alice Young of Spokane and Molly Hsu and her husband Sesean Hsu; grandchildren, Elly Hsu and Isaiah Hsu all of Tacoma, Wash.; brother, George Young and his wife Twylah of San Antonio; sister, Margaret Derebery and husband Bob of Denison; sister-in-law, Charlotte Young of Denison; nephews, Ray McCarthy and wife Loava, Franklin McCarthy and wife Jennifer, Boyd Young and wife Tina, Richard F. Young and wife Amy, Matt Young and wife Eva; nieces, Laura McCarthy, Rachel Young, Rebecca Smith and husband Kasey, Carol McNiel and husband Mark, Susan Wilson and husband Rick; numerous great-nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Sam Young Jr.
